The municipality of Fuencaliente bases its economy in wine crop, and wine production is one of the most important activities in the municipality. Among its wines, the well-known sweet malvasia stands out.In recognition to its wine tradition, the headquarters of the Regulatory Council for the Designation of Origin La Palma has been created in Fuencaliente.
This municipality registers the greatest number of volcanic eruptions on La Palma Island.Some of them being remarkable such as the one of Martín Volcano in 1646, San Antonio’s in 1677, El Charco’s in 1712, San Juan’s in 1949 and the most recent Teneguía Volcano’s eruption, on October 26, 1971.Fuencaliente, is one of the towns with the greatest surface of protected soil (70%) due to the huge presence of volcanos on the place.
