Reserva Biosfera La Palma

Fuencaliente Salt Mines Area of Scientific Interest

This natural space is located in the southern part of the island; its origin has been given by a very high quality sea salt active exploitation over basaltic lava. Its origins date from the year 1967 and from then on, it has been under non-stop activity. Nowadays, it is the only salt mine under production in Santa Cruz de Tenerife province. This salt mines complex supposes a reference point within the natural landscape and scientific-purpose visits to the island.
