Reserva Biosfera La Palma

Roque Negro

This Special Protection Area is located at the estuary of La Herradura ravine, between the municipalities of Barlovento and San Andrés y Sauces, and is composed by a section of sea cliff and a rook giving its name to the place. The main protection purpose is the Bulwer’s petrel (Bulweria bulwerii) little sea bird nesting in this place. The vegetation corresponds to a bush of bitter spurges and species very well adapted to salty environments. Likewise, this is the place of other bird colonies such as the Scopoli´s shearwater (Calonectris diomedea), the Manx shearwater (Puffinus puffinus), the Barolo shearwater (Puffinus (assimilis) baroli) and the common tern (Sterna hirundo).
